Mathematical
Investigations Key Stage 3 and 4 (a copiable
resource) contains 18 structured mathematical investigations suitable
for pupils aged 11-16 to prepare students for investigations in the
Mathematics curriculum.
These
projects start with very structured activities to familiarise students
with the process and thinking of investigation, and ends with more
open-ended tasks very similar to what used to be GCSE coursework tasks.
As a bonus the activities promote lateral thinking and
inventiveness of thought, and help students to be logical and systematic in
their approach to problem solving.
Secondly, the activities give the students the
opportunity to develop oral and written communication skills
while allowing students to enjoy Mathematics for the sake of intellectual
challenge. Thus the subject matter becomes more purposeful
and more meaningful in the eyes of the student.
Above all
the investigations are incredibly varied, ranging from topics such as
"handshakes" to "expanding rectangles" from
"matchstick snowflakes" to "chequered flags".
Each
comes with teaching notes, answers, worksheets and an introductory OHP
slide for the students.
One further
bonus with this book is that it is published as a download, which makes it a
lot lower priced that would otherwise be the case. This means
that the ordering process and delivery to you all happens on line - reducing
the publishing and printing costs dramatically.
To
undertake the purchase you will need a credit or debit card. A receipt is
provided so that you can reclaim this cost from the school, if using your own
card.
Please note
the book is not available for delivery through the post, but only by download
from our internet site.
