Classroom materials for the children who always finish first

Finding stimulating work for those children who finish their literacy and numeracy activities before the rest of the class can be a time-consuming task. Certainly many teachers recognise that it is not always rewarding and motivating for the pupils if they are given nothing other than more complex versions of the work that has already been learned. However finding something stimulating and exciting outside of the work that the rest of the class is still studying can be quite difficult.

This book offers teachers ready-made activities for those children who work at a faster pace than their colleagues, and offers them a break from the curricular matter currently being studied, and which they have already mastered.

The Teacher's Answer Book thus serves 3 important professional needs:

  • The bright child need not ask what to do now. H/she can always go to a fresh and stimulating challenge.
  • The teacher can be confident that in addition to her/his own teaching the bright child is always gainfully employed on work that matches his/her ability.
  • With completed challenges collected and filed, the parents can be shown supplementary evidence that the child's high ability is being recognised and developed.

The book serves another important function for the teacher - no matter how efficient one's planning there will inevitably arise the unexpected need to take over a class or fill an odd half-hour with unplanned but educationally sound work - and the book can provide such material. Although every challenge contributes to an aspect of the National Curriculum, it is not a scheme of work - rather a collection of one-offs which will maintain the pace and motivation of work of your brighter children.

It is available as a photocopiable book or on CD Rom so can be endlessly re-used with different classes.
