The Headteacher as Leader is a success manual. It examines what makes successful secondary schools successful, and what headteachers can do to break the cycle of failure without additional funding and without increasing the workload. The report summarises research which shows that often changes are not implemented effectively because schools are wary of change. Yet even very small changes can have a huge impact on pupils' attitudes, exam results, behaviour and pupil-staff relationships. Much depends on the way in which changes are introduced. This volume sets out the key factors which highly effective and improving schools have in common. It looks at the ways in which effective schools are implementing change and the actual changes that are implemented in order to increase the effectiveness of the school. The report is supplied in loose leaf format and includes various policy templates and documents which can be photocopied for all staff in the school and used as a basis for discussion. It can also be bought on CD Rom.
