From Failure to Excellence is a success manual. It examines what makes successful schools successful and what failing schools do in order to break the cycle of failure. The book takes as its starting point a secondary school which just a few years ago was failing, a school with all the problems of high unemployment in the catchment area, high petty crime, above average number of single parent families, a poor health record etc. And yet within a short period, this school has been transformed into one which receives the highest levels of praise from the LEA, from OFSTED, from parents and governors. The book looks at how this school achieved such a sensational turnaround and reviews how these lessons may be transferred to each and every other school in the country. What is particularly noteworthy is that the school had no special funding or support during its transition period. It was the change of management style which made the transformation possible. The book includes various policy templates and documents for staff and parents.
