It is vital that schools should have in place full policy documents covering all aspects of health and safety. These policies should take account of not only UK legislation such as the Health and Safety at Work Act but also European directives which have been adopted for use in Britain, such as the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, the Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations, the Display Screen Equipment Regulations and so on.
As many have found however, it is not adequate simply to have a set of policies in place. It is also a legal requirement that the school should undertake a risk assessment review in order to examine possible areas where problems might arise. There is no doubt that should an accident, illness or injury occur, whether it is from stress, repetitive strain injury, or a trailing cable, the school will find it much harder to argue its case if it has not undertaken correct reviews and put reasonable policies in place. School Health and Safety Policy Documents sets out standard procedures for schools and standard policy documents which can be adopted. The entire contents of the book, including the policy documents themselves, come in photocopiable format so that they may be taken straight from the volume and put into immediate effect. In addition a copy of the text can also be bought on CD Rom so that you can take any element of the text and modify it to suit your particular needs, without having to retype the whole section.
